Honduras is a small country on the Caribbean coast of Central America with a population of almost 9 million people. It has a rapid growth rate and a very young average age. It also has the dubious distinction of being one of the most violent countries in the world.
This is the youngest network of FM churches in Latin America, begun in 2008. There are now 8 churches and 8 ministerial candidates. Most of the churches are in rural areas and small towns in the northern region of Honduras near the Caribbean coast. The most recent church plant is in a larger town, Olanchito, out of a desire to begin reaching the major population areas.
Contacts from several different people in the US led to the start of churches in Honduras. One of those was Pastor Brent Thompson, then associate at a church in New York State (Genesis Conference) who with his wife had served as a missionary in Honduras with another organization. Making regular trips, Pastor Brent has fostered relationships and a sense of group cohesiveness among the different groups. Now Ohio Conference Superintendent, Brent continues to function as the district leader.
