Celebration that gives meaning to our faith
Easter is the remembrance of Christ’s sacrifice on the cross and His redeeming resurrection. This is what we celebrate at Easter, that God incarnate was born as a baby, crucified, without sin and raised on the third day.
As a culture we have many celebrations that can overwhelm the spiritual significance of the resurrection; bunnies, baskets and brunches but at our church we have a special celebration that reminds us of that morning long ago when Mary went to the tomb and found it empty.
Similar to taking communion in remembrance of Christ, we gather before dawn in an open, outdoor space to celebrate the resurrection of Christ on Easter morning with the rising of the sun. It is a simple, informal service. No projection or sound equipment. We sing familiar songs and sit in lawn chairs or on blankets on the ground. A short message about the resurrection is shared as the sun peeks its way over the horizon and we all experience the coming day. We see and feel the power of the sun as it rises and the darkness flees and we are reminded once again that the Son has risen and darkness has fled! He is Risen!
