Over 16 million people live in Ecuador in the northwest part of South America.
The city of Quito, with a population of almost 3 million nestled in the Andes Mountains, is one of the highest altitude capitals in the world.
The district includes seven Free Methodist churches – four in Quito and three around Esmeraldas, a city on the Pacific coast. Three church planting projects are in the beginning stages. There are three ordained pastors and several ministerial candidates; 20 lay leaders are currently studying through FLET (Fundación Latinoamericana de Estudios Teológicos) an interdenominational organization that provides Theological Education by Extension.
International Child Care Ministries played a significant role in the growth and development of the FMC in Ecuador. Five of the churches have ICCM sponsored ministries and many of the young adults that form the core of the district are graduates of ICCM.
Pastora Eunice Álvarez is a missionary from Mexico who pastors the newest and largest church in Quito. Her financial support comes through a partnership of her local church, the Mexican Conference and the Latin American Area. Women’s Ministries International and the Hispanic Churches in the Northeast US have each made significant contributions to fund the Latin America Area share.
Pastora Eunice leads the district as the Area Director’s representative.
